Understanding Thoughts vs Feelings
Learning to distinguish between thoughts and feelings is a fundamental skill in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This assessment will help you practice this important distinction.
Emotions (Feelings)
Emotions are single words that describe your emotional state:
- Sad, angry, anxious
- Joyful, excited, peaceful
- Guilty, ashamed, lonely
- Scared, panicky, heavy
Thoughts
Thoughts are statements or inner dialogue that go through our mind:
- Predictions about the future
- Interpretations of situations
- Judgments about ourselves
- Beliefs about life or people
